Pep Guardiola emphasizes that recognizing the significance of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne at City doesn’t require studying at Harvard or Yale.
In the recent 3-1 away victory against Brentford, Erling Haaland, a standout player in his debut season with Manchester City, marked his return to the starting lineup after a two-month absence. Joining him on the field was Kevin De Bruyne, who, after a five-month hiatus, had earlier made a significant impact coming off the bench in January’s 5-0 FA Cup triumph over Huddersfield.
De Bruyne’s comeback was nothing short of spectacular, contributing to crucial victories with goals and assists, earning him the prestigious title of Etihad Player of the Month. Notably, his involvement ranged from setting up decisive goals to orchestrating key moments, showcasing his pivotal role in Manchester City’s recent successes, including the latest triumph over Brentford at the Gtech Stadium in February.
Pep Guardiola expresses delight at the return of Haaland and De Bruyne, emphasizing their crucial roles in the team’s pursuit across multiple competitions. Guardiola highlights the impact of prolific goal-scoring and playmaking prowess in winning games, emphasizing the simplicity of understanding their significance. Additionally, Phil Foden’s impressive form, marked by a recent hat-trick, has garnered praise from Guardiola, who believes the young attacking midfielder is eager to further enhance his skills and continue contributing to the team’s success.
Guardiola also refused to be drawn on his opinion of sin bins or blue cards that have been in the news this week.
The City manager said it was ‘just an idea’ at present and he would offer a verdict on the concepts at a later date when they’re fully formed.
“I heard something like that but it’s not official from UEFA or FIFA.
“When they give the final decisions and explain the rules for everyone around the world, not just the referees and managers, I’ll give you my opinion.
“Now it’s just an idea.”
