Crystal Palace have announced the departure of 76-year-old manager Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson, who was reported ill after training on Thursday has finally stepped down as manager of Crystal Palace following a poor campaign in the league, leaving them 16th on the table.
Before his departure, the former Palace boss had been under fire for his team’s recent poor run of form, losing 10 of their last 16 premier league games which leaves them five points above the relegation zone. Supporters displayed banners questioning the way the club is being run.
Hodgson’s departing words
“I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons, as it has given me the chance to work with top-class players and staff doing what I love every day.
“However, I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead, and therefore I have taken the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward their plans for a new manager, as intended for this summer.
“I am confident that the season will finish well and I wish the team every success in the weeks, months and seasons to come.” according to Roy Hodgson, as reported by BBC Sports.
After taking over from Patrick Vieira for the final ten games of the previous season on a temporary contract, Hodgson was in his second spell as Palace’s manager.
Before deciding to stay on as manager of the team for the 2023–24 season, he guided the team to an 11th place finish in the standings.
The veteran became the oldest manager in English Premier League history. His long managerial career spanning about 48 years has seen him manage 18 club sides across different countries. He also managed four international teams during this period.
