Former Atletico defender Diego Godin has decided to come out of retirement to play for Uruguayan clubside.
The Veteran defender announced his retirement on July 27, 2023, when his team Vèlez Sarsfield visited Huracan on the last round of the season .
“I wanted to make the decision this way, being healthy, it may seem surprising, but I had been considering it for a while,” Godín told Argentine TV.
“Now there are other priorities. My family is in Uruguay and I recently became a dad, I want to rest and enjoy other things, and I wanted to try to leave with a good image on the pitch.” he added.
Godin comes out of retirement
Diego Godin has come out of retirement to sign a deal with Uruguayan clubside Porongos according to Fabrizio Romano on X.
Barely seven months into retirement, the 38-years-old defender is back and set to graze the pitch in Porongos’ Jersey, a club based in his country, Uruguay.
Considered one of the best defenders of his generation, Godin, who has had an illustrious playing career, spanning about twenty years has played for clubs across South America and Europe, including Atletico Madrid, where he spent majority of his club career, winning eight titles.
This new decision would see the Uruguayan defender add his new clubside to the list of clubs he has played for, extending his football career a bit longer.
