Mazzarri, who was assigned to manage the club in November, following the sacking of former boss Rudy Garcia has also been sacked.

As reported by BBC Sports, Owner Aurelio de Laurentiis thanked Mazzarri for “having helped the team in a tricky period”

Calzona replaces Mazzarri

Slovakia’s national team coach Francesco Calzona has been appointed to oversee the squad till the end of the season, while also remaining in charge of Slovakia who will be competing in the European Championship in Germany this summer.

Calzona becomes Napoli’s third headcoach this season since the departure of former boss Luciano Spalletti, who helped them clinch their first scudetto in 33yrs.

The Gil Azzurri currently sit at nineth position on the Serie A table, a position deemed to be below their standards, considering their last season’s success.

The current Serie A champions will host Barcelona in a Champions league round of 16 first leg tie on Wednesday.

Napoli would be looking forward to getting a positive result from the game as they are handed a huge boost, with last season’s Serie A highest goal scorer, Victor Osimhen returning to the squad after a month away on international duties at the just concluded African Cup of Nations
