Toni Kroos, in preparation for the Euro 2024 competition later this year, has rejoined the German national football team.
On Thursday afternoon, Kroos revealed this in a post on his Instagram account, as per Daily Post
“Guys, short and painless: I will play for Germany again from March,” Kroos wrote on Instagram.
“Why? Because I was asked by the national coach, I’m up for it and I’m sure that a lot more is possible with the team at the European Championships than most people believe!”, the Real Madrid midfielder said.
Kroos’ initial retirement
Kroos announced his retirement from international football in July 2021, following a 2-0 loss to England at the UEFA Euro 2020 round of 16 and being heavily criticised for his poor performance.
Before his initial retirement, the World Cup winner had 106 appearances for the Germany senior team, scoring 17 goals.
He is regarded as one of the all-time great midfielders because of his ability to dictate play in midfield or set up goals with his passing and ball delivery from set-pieces. A tall and athletic right-footed midfielder who is known for his accuracy and range of distribution with either foot, technique, vision, or reading of the game. He can also score goals for himself thanks to his ability to strike, especially from long range, and his accuracy from free kicks.
Germany will be playing against Scotland in their first game in the Euro 2024 competition. They will also face Hungary and Switzerland in their remaining group stage games.
