Former Italian striker Luca Toni has showered praise on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following his impressive performance in their round of 16 first-leg game against Barcelona.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 60th minute before Osimhen equalised with a fantastic finish, beating Andre Ter Stegen.
The Napoli striker, closed down by Barca defender Inigo Martinez, showed exceptional skills as he turned him to slot in the ball low into the net from Andre-Frank Anguissa’s pass.
Toni lauds Osimhen
Toni, impressed with this display, in an interview with Amazon Prime Video as per Tutto Napoli, said:
“Osimhen withstood the defender’s impact, protected the ball, turned well, and then in front of the goal, the goalkeeper was wrong-footed,” Toni told Amazon Prime Video as per Tutto Napoli.
“That was a goal from a true striker.”
“Napoli played a great match; they had a lot to lose, but instead, they emerged from Barcelona’s dominance and demonstrated that they can scare Barcelona.”, as reported by Daily Post
The goal against Barcelona brings the striker’s goal tally for the season to nine goals in 19 appearances.
The 25-year-old Napoli striker just arrived from the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he led his team to the final, losing 2-1 to the host nation.
