Erling Haaland has responded sharply to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s jibe about Manchester City’s spending, ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Title race Impact: Liverpool leads City by one point
The outcome of the match could significantly influence the title race, with Liverpool currently leading City by a single point after 27 games. While City has dominated the Premier League in recent seasons, winning the title five times in the last six years, Liverpool clinched their only Premier League title in 2019/20.
In a recent interview, Alexander-Arnold suggested that Liverpool’s trophies under Klopp hold greater significance due to financial circumstances.
Haaland hits back at Arnold
However, Haaland swiftly countered this argument, highlighting his own experience of winning the treble last season with City. He emphasized that Alexander-Arnold couldn’t relate to the feeling of such success.
Haaland, speaking to Sky Sports, remarked, “If he wants to say that, okay. I’ve been here one year and won the treble, and it was quite a nice feeling. I don’t think he knows that feeling.”
When asked about the upcoming game against Liverpool, Haaland took another swipe, reminding them that they were not contenders in last season’s title race.
“It’s going to be a great game,” he added. “Liverpool are top of the league so have been the best team so far. We have to try and play at our best. Last year I think we were in a quite interesting title race. Maybe someone was a bit away from the title race at one point.
“It was a nice thing. That’s what is so nice about the Premier League, there are so many who are so good. There are so many who can win the Premier League, last year it’s been City. We’ll try and do it again. It’s not going to be easy, but we are good.”, he said, as per Manchester evening news.
