The match, concluding in a 2-2 draw, didn’t begin favorably for Messi and his team. They conceded two early goals, one at the start of each half. Seizing the chance, home fans intensified their taunts with “Ronaldo” chants.

Despite Messi having a couple of missed opportunities in the first half, including a misjudged shot in the 37th minute and a blocked free kick just outside the box during first-half stoppage time, he left his mark on the game in the 52nd minute, following Jacob Shaffelburg’s second goal for Nashville SC early in the second half.
