Reports suggest that Liverpool players are eyeing Pep Lijnders as the successor to Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, fueling speculation about the club’s managerial future.
With Klopp aiming to conclude his nine-year tenure at Anfield on a high note, Some stars reportedly see Lijnders, the current assistant manager, as a viable candidate to take the reins.
The Dutch coach has been an integral part of the Liverpool setup for an extended period, having joined the club even before Klopp’s arrival.
Liverpool rumoured players preference
TalkSPORT pundits Alan Brazil and Dean Saunders shared insights into the players’ preferences, with Brazil stating, “I am told the players wouldn’t mind the number two, Pep taking over.”
Saunders echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Lijnders’ familiarity with the inner workings of the club, stating, “At least Lijnders knows what’s going on there.”
Lijnders initially joined LFC in 2014 during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure before transitioning to Klopp’s coaching staff.
After a brief stint in management with NEC in Holland, he returned to Anfield, where he and Klopp have collaborated closely to achieve recent successes.
The rapport between Klopp and Lijnders has led to speculation that the latter could provide a seamless transition into the role of manager.

With Liverpool navigating multiple competitions and aiming for silverware, continuity within the coaching staff is viewed as crucial by some players.

While Lijnders emerges as a compelling internal option, external candidates continue to be linked with the managerial vacancy. Among them, former LFC player and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso remains a favorite.

However, alternatives such as Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Germany’s national team manager Julian Nagelsmann, and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim are also under consideration.

As Liverpool weighs its managerial options, the players’ preference for Lijnders underscores his standing within the club and highlights the significance of a smooth transition to ensure continued success on the field.
