22-year-old Lewis Patching, who recently joined AFC Rushden & Diamonds on an emergency loan, has issued an apology after club terminates his contract for reportedly headbutting a fan within just 24 hours of signing.
Patching, formerly associated with Northampton Town’s academy, expressed regret for the altercation, which allegedly ensued after he faced aggressive shouting from the fan following his debut match, where he conceded four goals.
Rushden & Diamonds promptly confirmed his departure, signaling an end to Patching’s brief stint with the team, leaving the goalkeeper to publicly address and apologize for his actions on social media.

Patching shared his disappointment with how the game unfolded, both personally and for the club, and described being confronted by a group of home supporters who hurled abuse at him post-match.
