Eden Hazard has suggested the possibility of a new role in football as he gears up for his return to Chelsea
The 33-year-old former football star announced his retirement from the sport in October, following a career marked by both success and setbacks, including persistent injury and weight issues.
Eden Hazard, the former Chelsea star, has hinted at a potential new role in football as he prepares for his return to Stamford Bridge. The 33-year-old retired from football in October after facing disappointment due to years of injury and weight issues.
The journey so far for Hazard
During his illustrious career, Hazard achieved remarkable success, winning the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup twice, and a League Cup during his seven-year tenure at Chelsea.
From recent Sports Buddy reports, Eden Hazard returned to his boyhood club Lille as he got honoured with pitch named after him.
Before joining Chelsea, he made a significant impact at Lille, where his dazzling performances contributed to a league and cup double in 2011.
However, Hazard’s time at Real Madrid did not match the heights of his Chelsea days, as he struggled with injuries and fitness issues.
Despite signing a £88.3 million transfer deal in 2019, he made just 76 appearances and scored seven goals in four seasons, with reports suggesting concerns over his weight and fitness.
How much of football is Eden Hazard missing?
Although Hazard admits to missing playing, he is embracing his newfound freedom after retiring from professional football. Despite reportedly receiving lucrative offers from various leagues last summer, Hazard is exploring potential opportunities beyond playing on the pitch.
Eden Hazard shared his sentiments in an interview with The Standard, stating, “I enjoy it a lot. I miss my football a bit, especially being with the lads in the dressing room, but I can do what I want now. I have kids and a family.
I can go to Belgium to see my family, brothers and parents. I can do a lot of things.”
Regarding his potential future in football, Hazard remarked, “I don’t know [what’s next]. I don’t think I’ll coach professionally, but I think I can coach for youth teams. I have kids, and I want to teach them how to play football.”
Despite his retirement, Hazard will return to the pitch at Stamford Bridge on June 9 for Soccer Aid for UNICEF’s World XI against an England XI managed by Frank Lampard. Emphasizing his determination for the event, Eden Hazard stated, “I want to get fit. I don’t want to look like Peppa Pig.”
