Fiorentina has announced the heartbreaking passing of their general director, Joe Barone, just two days after their match against Atalanta was postponed due to his sudden illness.

In a statement, the club expressed profound sadness over the loss of Joe Barone, describing him as a pivotal figure in their recent history and a cherished friend known for his professionalism, passion, and dedication to the club’s colors.
The entire Fiorentina community, including owner Rocco Commisso, management, players, and staff, mourns the loss and extends their heartfelt condolences to Barone’s family during this time of immense grief.
Barone’s illness had led to the postponement of Sunday’s match against Atalanta, with the club confirming he had suffered a cardiac arrest at the team hotel and was hospitalized in the cardiac intensive care unit at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
Despite the efforts of medical staff and the support of his loved ones, including his wife and children who rushed to be by his side, Barone tragically passed away.
