A former Arsenal midfielder has openly admitted that he departed the club “for a woman,” a choice he now regards as one of the major regrets of his career.
Petit left Arsenal for Barcelona after a short stint at the club
Emmanuel Petit, who played as a defensive midfielder and was renowned for his World Cup triumph, earned adulation in north London but opted to transfer to Barcelona in 2000 after only three seasons in England.

Wenger and Petit: A Successful partnership
Petit initially collaborated with Arsène Wenger at Monaco during his formative years, and their professional association blossomed over the subsequent seven years.

Shortly after Wenger assumed the managerial role at Arsenal, he enlisted Petit and brought him to England.
Their partnership yielded a Premier League title and an FA Cup triumph, with Petit also clinching the World Cup with France during his tenure in London.

Despite establishing himself as a midfield stalwart and reflecting on his decision to move to Spain at the turn of the millennium, the 53-year-old concedes that remaining at the North London club and cementing his status as a club legend would have been the wiser choice.
When asked why he left the Gunners, Petit told Stadium Astro, “For a woman.” He added: “I always loved Barcelona and [Real] Madrid, two of the biggest clubs in the world. But I should have stayed with Arsenal, definitely,” reports the Express.
Sports Buddy also reported in other news that the Gunners are gearing up to pursue the signing of one of Europe’s deadliest strikers. They are set to trigger his £85 million release clause.
