Former Brazilian and Manchester City winger Robinho is reportedly set to serve a nine-year jail sentence for his involvement in a gang rape case in his home country after being found guilty in Italy back in 2017.

Brazilian court decides Robinho’s fate
The Superior Court of Justice in Brazil, as reported by Globo, made this significant ruling on Wednesday after Italian authorities sought his extradition in 2022.
The former AC Milan forward, whose real name is Robson De Souza, was among six men found guilty of assaulting an Albanian woman in an Italian nightclub in January 2013. The decision to incarcerate him in Brazil was supported by nine out of the 15 ministers of the court.

According to Globo, his legal team intends to appeal to both the BSCJ and the Federal Supreme Court. The former Premier League player, who also had stints at AC Milan and Real Madrid, is expected to be arrested in Santos, his current place of residence.
Typically, the Brazilian constitution does not allow for the extradition of its citizens, meaning Robinho might have faced arrest if he had left the country.
Robinho’s Appeal: Admits ‘contact’ but Insists on consensual encounter
During his appeal, Robinho, who was 28 and playing for AC Milan at the time of the incident, admitted to having “contact” with the woman but maintained that it was consensual.

In December 2020, the Milan Court of Appeals upheld his original sentence, stating that Robinho had “belittled” and “brutally humiliated” the victim. Intercepted phone calls between the former Real Madrid star and individuals allegedly involved in the assault served as crucial evidence in his conviction.
He had said: ”It makes me laugh because I’m not interested, the woman was drunk, she doesn’t even know what happened.”, as cited by Daily Mail
