Diogo Dalot overlooked his Manchester United teammate Andre Onana when naming the player he believes will soon ascend to the title of the best goalkeeper in the world
Manchester United made a significant investment of £47.2 million to acquire Onana from Inter Milan this summer, positioning him as the club’s new No. 1 goalkeeper, succeeding David de Gea.
However, Onana has faced criticism throughout the season, with club legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville openly expressing their concerns about his performances in January.
Despite the scrutiny, the former Ajax goalkeeper remained resolute, acknowledging in December that he was not satisfied with his form but dismissing doubts about his abilities with a laugh.
Diogo Dalot names his best goalkeeper
Diogo Dalot, while on international duty with Portugal, according to Metro, has chosen to overlook his Manchester United teammate Andre Onana and instead named FC Porto star Diogo Costa as the player he believes will soon become the best goalkeeper in the world.
Despite United’s significant investment in Onana last summer, replacing David de Gea as the club’s No. 1 goalkeeper, Onana has faced criticism, prompting doubts about his ability.
Although the Cameroonian performances have shown improvement and he feels he is on an upward trajectory, some of his teammates, including Dalot, still seem unconvinced.
Interestingly, Diogo Costa was previously linked with a move to Manchester United last summer before the club opted for Onana.
What Diogo Dalot said
“I think [Costa] is already more than ready for this leap [to a top European club], which will happen when he decides, whenever,” Dalot told Sport TV in Portugal.
“I’ve had the opportunity to tell him several times that he has that ability and for me he will be the best goalkeeper in the world soon.
He’s already one of the best and that’s why I believe he has that potential, that future. In addition to being a great friend, he is a great goalkeeper and I look forward to seeing what he will do in the future.”
