Both Robinho and Dani Alves were convicted of rape and handed prison sentences. Robinho, a former Manchester City player, was sentenced to nine years behind bars, while Dani Alves received a four-and-a-half-year sentence.
Dani Alves and Robinho rape charges
Sports Buddy in recent news reported that Dani Alves managed to secure his release by meeting the bail conditions, which required him to pay £850,000.
However, Robinho’s legal ordeal reached its climax when his last appeal was rejected in January 2022. Despite vehemently proclaiming his innocence, the court upheld his sentence, pointing to evidence of his participation in the crime.
Felipe Melo, who shared the field with the embroiled footballers for Brazil, pulled no punches when addressing the allegations against Alves and Robinho.
Melo’s strong condemnation
Speaking to Globo Esporte, as reported by Daily Mail, Melo expressed his outrage in unequivocal terms.
“I have a 15-year-old daughter. If they had done that with my daughter, I don’t think I would be here to give this interview.
“I believe we must respect other human beings, we must respect women, we must respect men. They have to pay for what they did. And let it serve as a lesson so that others do not do it. This is very serious.”
Melo’s criticism of his ex-colleagues underscores the seriousness of the situation, underscoring the importance of accountability and fairness.
Currently playing for Fluminense in Brazil, Melo boasts a distinguished career that includes representing the Brazilian national team in the 2010 World Cup. Together with Alves and Robinho, he formed part of the squad that competed in South Africa.
