Graham Potter Rejects Ajax After Short Chelsea Stint
Graham Potter is staying on the managerial market after rejecting a return to work with Ajax. The Dutch giants approached Potter after a disappointing season that saw them miss out on the Champions League.
Potter’s Challenging Tenure at Chelsea
Potter’s time at Chelsea was short-lived and filled with difficulties. He took over for Thomas Tuchel in September 2022 but was sacked just seven months later.
Despite leading the Blues to the Champions League quarterfinals, the team’s overall performance under Potter wasn’t convincing. They sat 11th in the Premier League at the time of his dismissal.
Ajax Seeks Improvement After Disastrous Season
Ajax endured a disastrous season, failing to win the Eredivisie title for the second year in a row and currently sitting a disappointing sixth in the league table.
They were also knocked out of Champions League contention, trailing the top two teams by a significant 24 points with only five games remaining. John van ‘t Schip is currently serving as the interim manager until the end of the season.
Potter’s Options Remain Open
While Potter declined Ajax’s offer, he remains a sought-after manager. He previously rejected an approach from Leicester City shortly after leaving Chelsea. With Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United uncertain, Potter has also been linked with the job at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is reportedly an admirer of Potter’s work.

Potter’s next move remains to be seen, but it’s clear that several clubs are interested in his managerial skills.
