Two Premier League footballers have been arrested and suspended by their club amid a rape investigation, leaving teammates in disbelief. The arrests occurred over the weekend after the alleged victim reported the incident to the authorities.
Police descended on the club’s stadium and initiated discussions with one of the players involved.

“News began to filter through the club on Monday morning.
“Everyone is understandably shocked at what has unfolded.
“The club is also trying to get to the bottom of what has happened.
“But with an ongoing police investigation and the seriousness of the allegations both players have been suspended,” a source said, as per The Sun.

One of the players was escorted from the stadium in a club Mercedes to a nearby police station, where he was formally arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.
Sources reveal that he was allowed to depart the stadium after a brief interview, only to be arrested later that night. The player spent the night in police custody and was subsequently questioned by detectives under caution. His teammate, also 19, was arrested the following day and questioned on suspicion of rape.
A police spokesman said, “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape.
“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.
“Both men have since been released on police bail.”

Both players were released on bail by the authorities, pending further investigations. The alleged incident is reported to have occurred on a Friday night, with the victim contacting law enforcement shortly thereafter to file a formal complaint. Police arrived at the stadium to speak with one of the footballers, marking the beginning of a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
