SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE: Respected football personality stands up for Super Eagles winger, blasts manager over ‘unjust treatment’

Transfer and early challenges

After an impressive 2022–2023 season with Spanish club Villarreal, Samuel Chukwueze secured a high-profile move to Italian side Rossoneri last summer for a significant sum, potentially reaching 28 million euros with bonuses. However, despite the hefty transfer fee, the Super Eagles winger encountered a challenging start in Italy.

Chukwueze’s recent form and starting lineup dilemma for Pioli

Since mid-March, the Super Eagles winger has started to exhibit his talent, prompting excitement among fans and pundits. Despite his growing form, Milan coach Pioli has consistently favored United States sensation Christian Pulisic for the right-wing role.

This decision has left observers questioning why Chukwueze has yet to solidify a spot in the starting lineup despite his recent performances.

Ponciroli expressed to TMW Radio, via Milan News, “I don’t know what Pioli sees in Musah, there’s Chukwueze in good condition and I don’t know why he never plays.

“I think Pioli has lost control of the situation. He was certainly convinced of these choices, it’s true that talking about them later is easier, but from before I already considered these choices to be wrong,” he said as per MSN.

Tactical adjustment needed and Pioli’s uncertain future

Despite Pulisic’s commendable performance, contributing to 21 goal involvements since joining AC Milan from Chelsea, Ponciroli suggests that it’s now crucial for Pioli to adapt his tactics to harness Chukwueze’s abilities.

Pioli’s tenure at AC Milan faces uncertainty following their elimination from the Europa League by AS Roma, followed by a disappointing derby loss to Inter Milan on Monday.
