Phil Foden and Shaw Land FWA Footballer of the Year Awards
Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Khadija “Bunny” Shaw have been named the 2023/24 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for their respective men’s and women’s categories.

Phil Foden Clinches Award with Teammates in Tow
This marks the second time in City’s history that both the men’s and women’s awards have gone to their players, following Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris’ win in 2019.

The midfielder edged out Arsenal’s Declan Rice and teammate Rodri, who came in second and third, respectively. Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins, and Cole Palmer rounded out the top six.
Foden has been instrumental for City this season, racking up 16 Premier League goals and seven assists. He’s also found the net five times with three assists in the Champions League and twice in the FA Cup.
Shaw Makes History for City Women
Shaw, meanwhile, became the first Manchester City women’s player to win the FWA award since Nikita Parris in 2019. Her impressive performance this season – 21 goals and three assists in 18 WSL games – has her team on the verge of their first league title since 2016.

The England forward garnered a record number of votes in the category, with nearly 80% placing her above Chelsea’s Lauren James. Manchester City’s Alex Greenwood secured the third-place position. Yui Hasegawa, Elisabeth Terland, and Khiara Keating completed the top six.
Unfortunately, a foot injury sustained during a 5-0 win against West Ham has sidelined Shaw for the final three games of the season.
