Frustrated Arsenal Fans Resort to Conspiracy Theories After Narrow Win at Old Trafford
Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, but the result wasn’t enough to satisfy some overzealous Gunners supporters. These fans took to social media to express their discontent with bizarre claims that the match was fixed.
Manchester United Injuries No Excuse for Conspiracy Theories
Manchester United entered the contest depleted by injuries, but despite their limitations, they managed to keep the game close. However, some Arsenal fans felt the scoreline wasn’t emphatic enough.
One social media user wrote: “They [Manchester United] obviously didn’t want Arsenal to lose against them just to make things harder for their rivals… looks like a fixed match to me.” Another echoed this sentiment, commenting: “This Man Utd vs Arsenal looks like a fixed game.”
These baseless accusations were not representative of the majority of the Gunners fans, and there was no evidence to suggest the game was anything other than a fair competition.
Questionable Tactics or Casemiro Mistake?
Another group of Arsenal supporters expressed frustration over what they perceived as overly conservative tactics from their team. “Why aren’t Arsenal attacking this weak Man Utd team when we need to increase the goal difference? So weird,” one disgruntled fan whined.
Another supporter took aim at Manchester United’s midfielder Casemiro, who has been filling in at center-back due to the team’s injury crisis. “Watching Casemiro on Motd2 and it’s blatantly obvious that it’s arranged for him to be that deep for Arsenal to score,” the fan wrote. “No professional player ever would do that. The @premierleague is totally rigged.”
While Casemiro did make a crucial error in the lead-up to Arsenal’s goal by failing to get back in line with the rest of the defense, this was widely regarded as a genuine mistake rather than evidence of a conspiracy. Gary Neville, a former Manchester United player turned pundit, called it a “basic error” by the Brazilian after leaping to his defence recently as reported by Sports Buddy.
Title Race Heats Up as Arsenal Clinch Vital Three Points
The Gunners victory over Manchester United puts them one point ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League title race, although City have a game in hand. The Gunners will now face Everton on the final day of the season, while City will play West Ham.
With the title race coming down to the final two matches, The North London faithfuls will be hoping for a positive result from Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming match against Manchester City. “I am going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever. Let’s hope for the best,” said Arsenal’s Kai Havertz after the Manchester United match.
The London club manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, but emphasized the importance for his team to focus on their own performance. “We know we need a result [for Tottenham against City],” Arteta said. “We need to do our own thing still in the last game.”
