A footballer has been accused of rape after forcefully sleeping with a woman while she slept before sending explicit photos of her to his teammates.
Emery accused of rape
Michael Emery, aged 33, reportedly took the woman back to a hotel after celebrating Warrington Rylands FC’s FA Vase win on May 22, 2021.
During the trial at St Alban’s Crown Court, it was revealed that they initially engaged in consensual sex, which the woman described as “vanilla”, before the defendant fell asleep.

However, she allegedly woke up to find Emery biting her “really hard” on her left thigh and breast.
Despite her protests and saying “ow” twice, indicating discomfort, and expressing her unwillingness to engage in sex, Emery allegedly proceeded to rape her, as per the court proceedings.
The woman then resorted to “playing dead” while he continued to bite her, only for Emery to allegedly rape her for a second time, jurors were told.
Alleged rape offense at Watford Hotel
According to Charlotte Newel KC, prosecuting, the alleged offenses occurred at a hotel in Watford.
The court heard that the woman had consumed six or seven bottles of beer over eight hours and was described as “merry but not drunk.”

According to The Sun, while opening the case Ms Newell said:, “Whilst she was asleep, Mr Emery demonstrated his total disregard for the autonomy and consent of the woman he had intercourse with by taking photographs of her naked without her knowledge and distributing them shortly before 4am amongst his teammates.”
Emery is accused of sending explicit pictures to two WhatsApp group chats, purportedly accompanied by the message: “Anyone want a go?
