The 2023/2024 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borsussia Dormund was full of chaos.
Chaotic Champions League final
Despite the presence of almost 2,000 police officers on duty to monitor the final, there were many security lapses at the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium as security personnel found it difficult to stop these scenes.
53 people had been arrested at Wembley, according to confirmation from the Metropolitan Police.
Amid the numerous chaos, three pitch invaders, who were all wearing T-shirts with the moniker “Mellstroy,” managed to get past Wembley’s enhanced £5 million security operation and onto the field.
The invaders entered the field thirty seconds after the Champions League final began, interfering with play. Security guards were quick to remove two of the invaders before the last one was taken down by four security personnel.
Reason behind the pitch invasion
Later on, it came to light that the pitch invaders who invaded the field were acting with a hidden agenda.
According to reports, the people who invaded the pitch during the game were promised a prize if they could successfully rush the field.
Infamous Russian blogger Mellstroy reportedly promised £300,000 to anyone who broke into the field while using his identity, according to claims from social media and the Sun.
The 25-year-old streamer, whose actual name is Andrey Burim, has come under fire for allegedly going above and beyond to get views.
“It is illegal to enter the field of play at Wembley Stadium, and we strongly condemn the actions of those who interrupted the UEFA Champions League Final shortly after kick-off.
“All of the individuals have now been arrested. We will support the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken,” said a Wembley spokesman.
Match review
The game was later continued, with Borussia Dortmund threatening to score the Spanish Giants in the first half. Kareem Adeyemi failed to convert a one-on-one opportunity against Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
However, Real Madrid broke the deadlock in the second half via a Dani Carvajal header from Toni Kroos’ corner. The Spanish giants then doubled the lead, securing victory late in the second half from Vinicius Jr.’s strike after Ian Matseen’s displaced pass was intercepted by Jude Bellingham, who laid a well weighted pass to the Brazilian forward.
Real Madrid have now won their fifteenth Champions League trophy and their sixth in ten years.
