Cole Palmer’s Unique Nickname
Chelsea star Cole Palmer has earned an unusual nickname from his teammate Djordje Petrovic: ‘Beans’. The 22-year-old Palmer had an incredible debut season with the Blues, scoring 25 goals and assisting 15 in all competitions. This impressive performance quickly made him a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge, where many have started calling him ‘Cold’ Palmer, a nickname he embraces even in his goal celebrations.
Petrovic’s Nickname Revelation
However, Petrovic, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, has a different take on Palmer’s nickname. Speaking to the club, Petrovic shared, “Cole is an amazing guy, always relaxed… maybe even more on the pitch than off it. He has had an amazing season and helped the team a lot.” He continued, “Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot.”
Petrovic explained how he came up with Palmer’s unique moniker: “I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans. I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me, he is Beans.”
Impressive First Seasons
Both Palmer and Petrovic joined Chelsea last summer and made significant impressions during their first seasons. Palmer’s offensive prowess was evident in his contributions on the field, quickly establishing himself as a key player. Petrovic, hailing from Serbia, became Chelsea’s primary goalkeeper amid Robert Sanchez’s injury, securing seven clean sheets in 31 appearances.
Petrovic’s notable moment came when he saved Matt Ritchie’s penalty against Newcastle in their Carabao Cup quarter-final shootout at Stamford Bridge. Although Chelsea eventually lost the final to Liverpool, they managed to finish sixth in the Premier League, securing qualification for the Europa Conference League.
Looking Ahead
Chelsea fans are hopeful that Palmer can replicate his goal-scoring efforts next season. Both Palmer and Petrovic will be playing under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who was announced as the club’s new manager. This change brings renewed optimism and the potential for Chelsea to win their first silverware since 2022.
As Petrovic and Palmer continue to bond off the field, their camaraderie is expected to translate into strong performances on the pitch, with fans eagerly anticipating the duo’s contributions in the upcoming season.
