Manchester United Set £40m Price Tag on Jadon Sancho
Manchester United have placed a £40m valuation on winger Jadon Sancho, who has found himself out of favor at Old Trafford according to the BBC. After a fallout with manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho spent the latter half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho’s Loan Success at Borussia Dortmund
During his loan spell, the 24-year-old winger played a crucial role in Borussia Dortmund’s journey to the Champions League final. Sancho’s performance was particularly notable in the match against Real Madrid, where he was on the pitch for almost the entire game. Despite Dortmund’s impressive showing, they eventually succumbed to two late goals.
Uncertain Future at Manchester United
Initially, Sancho’s future at Manchester United seemed tied to Erik ten Hag’s tenure, with the Dutch manager yet to find out if he will continue to lead the team into the final year of his contract. However, according to BBC Sport, United have decided to sell Sancho this summer irrespective of who the manager is. The club is seeking £40m for the England international.
Interest from Dortmund and Financial Fair Play Considerations
Borussia Dortmund are interested in having Sancho return next season, though they prefer another loan arrangement. In contrast, United are aiming for a straight sale, driven by the need to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, which will limit their transfer funds. Sancho, who joined United from Dortmund for £73m in July 2021, has two years remaining on his contract.
Interest in Jadon Sancho has also emerged from other European clubs, with Juventus among the teams previously linked with the former Manchester City academy player. As the summer transfer window approaches, United’s decision to offload Sancho could spark a competitive bid for his signature.
