Following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager, Turkish side Fernabache have entered the race to sign Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood to work with the Portuguese boss.
Jose Mourinho/Greenwood potential reunion
With Greenwood’s future uncertain following the expiration of his loan deal with Spanish club Getafe, Fenerbahce are keen on recruiting the 22-year-old striker, who may be permitted to leave United for a price of about £50 million.
“Fenerbahce are interested in Mason, They know he is a quality player and believe that having Mourinho as manager could be an attractive proposition for him,” a source said, as per The Sun.
This comes only days after his former boss at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho, was appointed as the Turkish giants’ new manager, as previously reported by Sports Buddy.
Greenwood played under Mourinho during the 61-year-old manager’s stint as boss at Old Trafford. The 16-year-old was given an opportunity by Mourinho to join the senior team for their preseason US trip in 2018.
The 22-year-old attacker grabbed the opportunity presented and made his way to become a mainstay of the team, until an assault situation with his girlfriend led to his arrest in January 2022. Greenwood was then suspended from the team. All charges were dropped, and the English forward was cleared to play football again, leading to his loan move to Getafe.
With his loan deal expired, Fenerbache are keen on signing the talented forward to reunite with his old boss.
