Sports Buddy had previously reported that Finidi was questioned for not using the 23-year-old attacker in a previous game against South Africa.
“He was supposed to come in but when we heard [Semi] Ajayi complain that he had a knock, he couldn’t continue. So we had to reverse that,’ said the former Eyimba boss as he defends his decision to leave Boniface on the bench.
Fans react to Boniface’s omission
Boniface’s omission from the starting eleven again has left fans perplexed, as they believe the Bayer Leverkusen star would offer more upfront than the listed attackers in the starting eleven.
One fan said, “Omo this finidi na werey oo why always benching Boniface for that iroko tree.”
Another one asked, ”Is Boniface injured?”
A third lamented, ”Tf did Boniface do to that that coach?”
The Super Eagles face the Squirels of Benin Republic, hoping to bounce back from recent poor results that have seen them pick up just three points from a maximum nine.
