Bayern Munich has set their sights on Chelsea defender Levi Colwill as one of their top targets for summer transfer window. Initial talks are reportedly already underway. The 21-year-old versatile defender. He is capable of playing both centre-back and left-back. Colwill enjoyed a breakthrough season at Chelsea as he made 32 appearances across all competitions.
Colwill who had previously impressed during loan spells with Huddersfield and Brighton, has now established himself as valuable member of the Chelsea squad. His performances have been notable enough to earn him his first England cap. However he did not make it into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad. According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich is considering making an offer for Colwill this summer.
Defensive Revamp at Bayern Munich
Colwill is part of planned defensive revamp at Bayern Munich. He is not first choice for Vincent Kompany’s side. The Bavarian giants are primarily targeting Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah. They could potentially move for both players. Tah who is currently with Germany squad at Euro 2024, has just one year left on his contract with Leverkusen. If he does not sign new deal the Bundesliga champions are likely to cash in on him this summer.
It would be frustrating loss for Leverkusen as Tah has been with club since 2015. He would be leaving for rival after finally winning the Bundesliga for first time. In contrast, Chelsea faces no immediate contractual pressure to sell Colwill. His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2029 following an extensive extension signed last year. However, the Blues might be tempted to sell young defender due to homegrown player providing pure profit for Profit and Sustainability Rules.
While Chelsea is unlikely to be keen on selling Colwill financial benefits of such a move might prove too tempting to ignore. Bayern Munich looks to strengthen their defensive line. The potential acquisition of both Colwill and Tah could significantly bolster their squad. This would particularly benefit them for upcoming season.
