Former Nigeria national team head coach Gernot Rohr, whose team recently defeated the Super Eagles in their World Cup Qualifier clash, has questioned the mentality of the Nigerian players in his post match interview.
Rohr’s Benin Republic team dealt another blow to the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup aspirations, having recorded a 2-1 victory over them on Monday.
The German coach, who formerly managed Nigeria’s national team, was sacked by the country’s football federation in 2021 due to a lack of discipline in the team, as reported by The Cable.
His current team’s victory over the Super Eagles comes as revenge, as he expresses satisfaction over his team’s performance while criticising Nigerian players’ mentality.
Gernot Rohr on Nigeria victory
“We had the right organization, Nigeria scored the first goal, perhaps, they believed it was already done.
“But the reaction, the desire of my team was so strong that they could come back to win the match,” Rohr said, as per Favour Itua.
This recent loss to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic leaves Nigeria fifth on the standing, with just three points from four games.
