Iman Asante Shumpert is an American who previously played professional basketball. In the 2011 NBA Draft, he was chosen with the 17th overall choice by the New York Knicks. In 2016, he and the Cleveland Cavaliers won an NBA championship.

Shumpert was born on June 26, 1990, in Berwyn, Illinois. At Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Oak Park, Illinois, he played basketball with another NBA star, Evan Turner, as a teammate in the eighth grade.
He continued on to play high school at Oak Park and River Forest, where he was named to the first team of the state team and ranked among the top 30 in the country as a senior.
Being awarded conference MVP in both his junior and senior years, he assisted Oak Park and River Forest in winning three conference championships.
Scout.com ranked him No. 15 among the senior players in the country, while Rivals.com ranked him No. 26. In addition, he was awarded a third-team Parade All-American and chosen to participate in the 2008 McDonald’s All-American Game.

Shumpert started his NBA career with the New York Knicks, although he missed the majority of his rookie season due to several knee problems. He resumed practicing in 2013, although he missed three weeks of practice in 2014 due to another shoulder ailment.
After that, Iman was moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015, where he immediately made an impact and helped the club get to the NBA Finals.
Iman had another injury, this time to his wrist, just after agreeing to a $40 million contract deal with the Cavaliers. His left knee was drained later that season, ruling him out.
Shumpert was utilized by coach Tyronn Lue as a backup point guard by the 2016–17 season. He had a career high with 18 points against the Detroit Pistons in 2017. But he had another left knee injury at the end of 2017 that kept him out for six to eight weeks.
Shumpert played with the Brooklyn Nets, the Sacramento Kings, and the Houston Rockets throughout the course of the following several years. Wilson Chandler’s ban ended in 2019, and Iman was released by the Nets.
