Nigerian attackers Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface have been nominated for Ghana’s top football honors, as their Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhan was snubbed.
Both Boniface, in his debut season with Bayer Leverkusen, and Lookman, who plays for Atlanta, have received recognition for their outstanding performances last season.
Lookman’s Europa final heroics
A record-breaking performance saw the 26-year-old attacker score three goals, becoming the first player to do so in the final of a UEFA competition.
Boniface’s impressive season
Boniface was out with injury for over three months. Despite this, he managed to score 21 goals, providing ten assists across all competitions, helping Leverkusen to a domestic double as his team went a whole season in the league and the DFP Pokal undefeated.
However, his team failed to clinch the treble, as they lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final, courtesy of Lookman’s brilliant performance.
Osimhen surprisingly snubbed for Ghana Football Awards
The prestigeous Ghana Football Awards, which is in its sixth edition, acknowledges the best players and achievements in the country’s football scene, as per Ghanaweb.
Boniface and Lookman have been nominated for the Best African International category for the award. However, the current African Best Footballer of the Year and fellow Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen did not make the cut. This would surely come as a huge surprise to Nigerian football fans.
