An under-17 World Cup star has passed away after being shot in the head during a breakout fight that occurred while he was watching a softball game from the stands.
Earlier this week, during a confrontation at a local game in Maria Chiquita, Panama, a guy brandished a revolver, fatally shooting Giancarlos Giameli Garcia del Cid, 18, in the head.
It was reported by local media that five other men between the ages of 22 and 39 sustained injuries during the gunfire and were quickly taken to a hospital nearby.
The police have reportedly arrested two men after claiming that they found many people injured and others in shock.
Club pays tribute to under-17 World Cup star
Garcia was a center back for Arabe Unido, a Colon top division team. He participated at the World Cup in Indonesia last year as a member of the Panama Under-17 team.
Upon Garcia’s tragic death, his club, Arabe Unido, paid tribute to him.
“At 18 years old, he stood out not only for his skills on the field but also for his values and respect towards his teammates and coaches. We bid farewell to his physical presence, but his spirit and bravery will always remain with us,” the club wrote, as per The Mirror.
