Harry Kane and Pickford Make History in England’s Euro 2024 Opener
Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford have marked their names into English players history books as they start in the European Championship match against Serbia in the Euro 2024. Both players are regarded as English national team’s main hopes since the English are considered one of the main contenders for the victory in the tournament. The match in Gelsenkirchen saw manager Gareth Southgate starting with both Kane and Pickford in the team’s lineup.
Record-Breaking Achievements
This achievement saw Kane supersede Ashley Cole and Raheem Sterling as England’s most capped player with twenty-three at the major tournaments. Also, Kane has become the top English player in the number of appearances in Euros, surpassing Gary Neville. However, there was also a flip side as Pickford equalled Peter Shilton’s record of being the most capped England goalkeeper in a major tournament with 20. A clean sheet against Serbia would also have meant that Pickford reaches the same major tournaments record of ten clean sheets hold by Shilton.
Focus on Success
The England and Sunderland goalkeeper Pickford when asked about his 61 caps remarked, ‘I work hard off the pitch and then on the pitch I do everything right to the best of my ability. I’m 30 now, and I keep improving every day. “He continued, ‘I’ve got the jersey and I want to keep pushing forward, They have to chase me.’
Harry Kane also expects good results for the English team and is now considering his team one of the favorites: “We have worked hard to become such a team, and, in general, we are here to win.
The Three Lions have placed themselves in Euro 2024 fixtures, and both Kane and Pickford are determined to give their best to achieve the goal.
