Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has revealed he can speak English but chooses not to speak the language.
Messi, who grew up in Argentina, before moving to Barcelona is most comfortable speaking Spanish.
Many believe the 36-year-old does not understand English as he has never been seen letting out more than a few words when speaking in public.

However, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who moved to the United states in the summer of 2023 has disclosed that he understands almost everything in English but does not speak.
“I understand everything or almost everything in English.
“But out of embarrassment I don’t speak – but I think I can actually,” Messi revealed in a Spanish-speaking press conference while laughing, as per The Sun.
Lionel Messi delighted fans last month when he said “Bad Boys” in English, in the teaser for the new film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Julian Gressel, a teammate of Messi in Inter Miami has also revealed that Messi occasionally speaks in English while covering his mouth.
“Messi doesn’t really ever speak to me much and if he did, then it was a little bit in Spanish always.
“I understand most of it in Spanish. He came over to me and said something in English.
