Arsenal defender Kieran Tierny saw his Euro 2024 journey end abruptly after suffering a hamstring injury in Scotland’s matchday 2 encounter against Switzerland.
The Scotland defender appeared devastated as he was carried out on a stretcher during Wednesday’s second-half draw with the Swiss.
As Tierney was sprinting to stop a Swiss counterattack, his leg gave out, causing him to fall to the ground in a heap. He quickly grabbed his hamstring and gestured to the substitutes’ bench.
Update on the Arsenal defender’s injury

The 27-year-old is being returned home to continue his recuperation at his club and will miss the remainder of the tournament, according to Steve Clarke, who acknowledged the injury “was a bad one” during the encounter in midweek.
John Carver, the assistant manager of the Scots, during his news conference today said, “He was stretchered off the other night. He’s got an issue with his hamstring and as we speak he is heading home to be assessed by Arsenal.
“That is all I can say at the moment.”
When asked how Tierney’s injury will affect the team, Carver said that while his absence will throw off the lineup, he will return shortly to support the team should they make it to the round of 16.
Tierney is inconsolable for himself.
“He’s obviously extremely disappointed.
“If we do progress and move through the tournament Kieran will be back to support us. But he’s a young lad, he’s got plenty of time.
“It’s a blow because he’s one of our top players and in tournament football you need your best players on the park, Carver added, as per The Sun.
