Worries are increasing about Luke Shaw missing England training. This absence fuels speculation that the Manchester United player might be dealing with a new injury problem. Despite his selection for England’s Euro 2024 team Shaw has not played in the Premier League since February. He has been sidelined due to a muscle injury. Recently, the Manchester United left back has been training independently.
Southgate’s Gamble on Manchester United’s Shaw
There was hope that the 28-year-old would get better in time to play against Denmark in the game. Sadly that didn’t happen. Southgate said taking Shaw was risk he was willing to take. “We think it’s worth the risk. His way of playing with his left foot. And how he can attack in different ways made us want to try. Luke is getting better. We hope he can play a bit in the second group match, but he has to meet some requirements first.”
Increased Scrutiny and Shaw’s Condition
Shaw’s inclusion has been under greater scrutiny as he is England’s only natural left-sided full-back in the squad. This has forced Kieran Trippier to play on the opposite flank. Ben Chilwell was left out of the squad due to his own injury issues. There are doubts about Shaw’s ability to impact England’s Euro bid. Especially after talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers reported seeing the Manchester United defender limping after the draw with Denmark.
Carruthers noted “It’s a real worry. When I saw him in the tunnel after the Denmark game. He was still limping. He didn’t look comfortable at all. He must have had setback that they’re not telling us about. You’re not still limping at this stage if you’re playing in few weeks.”
Southgate’s Reassurance
Despite these worries Southgate looked calm ahead of Denmark game. He shared that Shaw wouldn’t play. “Luke won’t join us tomorrow. No. He’s now in training. He is getting better.”
