Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly reached out to the club’s Legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, with a prospective of joining his coaching staff.
Van Nistelrooy found his place among United’s all-time leading goalscorers during his period at Manchester, where he had scored 150 goals in 219 matches.
Van Nistelroy Man United Days
The Dutchman played a pivotal role in helping Man United claim the premier league trophy in 2003.
After leaving the national team in February 2012 Van Nistelrooy has had several coaching spells mainly in Holland and has acted as an assistant manager twice for Netherlands national team.
His last managerial role was at the Dutch side PSV where he turned the side into title winners and made them Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup champions prior to his departure in May 2023 following a row that rendered him a ‘lacking of backing at the club’.
The Return Of the Dutchman
However, the former premiership player could possibly prepare for a heartwarming homecoming in Manchester United; as Ten Hag has approached Van Nistelrooy to join the staff of the Theatre of Dreams, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
This was evidenced by the fact that during the previous season, Ruud van Nistelrooy could rejoin Man United.
Ten Hag will be likely to make some changes within his coaching staff since the club chose to retain the ex-Ajax coach even if there were rumours that the United chief expected him to be fired after an unterrific 2023-24 season.
Man United ended the last season in the lowest rank of premier league under the management of Ten Hag but provided a positive ending by winning the FA Cup through the win against Manchester city at Wembley.
Manchester United spoke to several candidates to replace the Dutchman – including Thomas Tuchel, the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager – but the Old Trafford side stuck with the 54-year-old.
He added: ‘It will, perhaps, take two or three summer windows to have this improved state; we are not sure that we will fix all the problems during the first transfer window. ’
