Former Super Eagles player has questioned the leadership of captain William Troost Ekong in the Super Eagles team.
Ideye made the point that the team needs leaders of the caliber of Ahmed Musa, a teammate in the Super Eagles side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Due to the uproar surrounding Victor Osimhen’s social media rant regarding Finidi George, Brown Ideye has begun to doubt the team’s leadership.
The 35-year-old implied that the AFCON Player of the Tournament is merely a captain and not a leader, casting doubt on his ability to lead.
Ideye questions Ekong’s leadership
Brown Ideye spoke candidly about the defender’s leadership abilities during an X-space discussion hosted by The Naija Football Conference.
The ex-Super Eagles star said, “A leader has to be someone who has been in that team for years and years. In the present Super Eagles we don’t have those players like Enyeama and Yobo anymore.
“Who do you want to give a leader, Ekong? It’s not about having the captain’s armband. Can Ekong sit Osimhen, Chukwueze, Lookman down and speak to them? No.
“I don’t see Osimhen sitting down with Ekong and hear everything he has to say without saying something back.”

The captain has no control over important Super Eagles players like Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen, Ideye emphasized.
He insisted that Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama were the team’s captains when he played for the Super Eagles.
The absence of a team leader capable of instilling discipline and focus in the players has caused the team to perform below expectations in recent games.
