The Hungary national football team Skipper, Dominik Szoboszlai, has directed displeasure to UEFA medical teams for allegedly coming late to the aid of Barnabas Varga who was injured in a match against Scotland. Substitute Varga was taken off in a stretcher after a clash with goalkeeper Angus Gunn in second half of the Group A match in Stuttgart.
Varga’s Serious Injury
The clash with Gunn rendered Varga, a Ferencvaros forward, unconscious and with fractures to the face. A concerned looking Szoboszlai was notably dragging the stretcher from the medical personnel with his hands and encouraging them to move more swiftly.
Varga’s face and nose imjury was so serious that he had to undergo surgery the next day. Regarding this issue, this was the answer that Szoboszlai had to say; ‘I have not really considered the medical protocol or how it works but if our doctors suggest to us that we need someone to help us then they should not walk.
Dominik Szoboszlai Criticizes Medical Protocol
Szoboszlai also highlighted the importance of quick reactions with players and the medical staff, particularly when there are massive impacts. He contested the current best practice, hinting that the medics should storm the pitch in cases that are hence deemed serious, even if it is before the referee blows his whistle.
He said, “Even though the referee may be telling the other player: don’t continue playing, just continue anyway And if you see it is not serious, you can just take a dive and it is over because almost any second is useful. ”
Hungary Team’s Frustration
It did not only stress out Szoboszlai but also made the entire Hungary medical team respond slowly, which angered them. Players and coach Marco Rossi expressed dissatisfaction over delayed aid in the scenario of Varga. The medics subsequently pulled a sheet over Varga as a sign of how severe the damage was in his body.
