Barcelona and Spain youngster Lamine Yamal might breach a little-known law in tonight’s Euro group round match against Albania.
The 16-year-old has been impressive in Euro 2024 so far, terrorizing full-backs on the flank while helping Spain win both of their matches against Croatia and Italy.
With Albania’s game at 8 p.m. tonight, Yamal is now prepared to give his country a hat-trick of victories.
Bild asserts that by playing Yamal, Spain runs the danger of breaching a stringent German law.
What the law says and how it affects Lamine Yamal
Acording to the alledged law, under-18s are prohibited from working in the nation after 8 p.m. local time.
However, exemptions are granted to athletes, enabling them to compete until 11 p.m., but all post-match activities, including taking a shower and fulfilling media duties, must fall within this.
Spain vs. Albania begins at 9 p.m. local time and ends at 11 p.m. at the latest because Germany is one hour ahead of the UK.
Yamal would then exceed the allocated time period for his post-match obligations, so if Spain plays him for the entire 90 minutes, they will be breaking the law.
There’s even a risk that Spain may face a £25,000 fine from German authorities should they infringe the law.
