Former African Player of the year and Nigerian-born ex-Arsenal star Emmanuel Adebayo has made a surprising pick as he names player to win the next CAF Player of the Year award.
Adebayo picks Guirassy ahead of Osimhen

Adebayo named Bundesliga star Serhou Guirassy as the most deserving candidate to win the prestigious award ahead of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, the three candidates many perceive as the frontrunners.

“Of course [he deserves to win],” Adebayo told Afrik-Foot about Guirassy.
“He had an extraordinary season with Stuttgart, he is a striker who scored a lot.
“He will be one of the contenders, that’s for sure, especially since Salah has not scored as much, Victor Osimhen did not have the same season as the year of the title. It’s open this year. If it’s Guirassy, it will be deserved.”

Guirassy had an impressive Bundesliga campaign, helping Stuttgart to an unexpected second-place finish, with his 28 league goals, only bettered by Golden Boot winner Harry Kane, who scored 36 goals.

Osimhen scored 17 goals last season across all competitions, demonstrating his strength even after a difficult season with Napoli.
Lookman, on the other hand, enjoyed a successful 2023/2024 season as he scored a hattrick in the Europa League final to helped Atalanta clinch their first ever European trophy. The Nigerian winger scored a total 15 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions for the Italian side.

Fellow Super Eagles teammate Boniface also had a successful season with Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, as the German side went unbeaten in 51 games. The 23-year-old attacker scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.
