Alan Shearer’s proposed England XI for Switzerland clash
Gareth Southgate’s side now face Switzerland in the quarterfinals and Alan Shearer has suggested the lineup he feels will be the best for the game.
The Premier League record goal scorer made just one change in defense from Southgate’s round of sixteen lineup, with Ezri konsa replacing Marc Guehi, in center back, following the latter’s suspension.
Stones and Kyle Walker keep their spots in Shearer’s squad, while Jordan Pickford stays in goal, with Kieran Trippier stays at left back, provided he is fit for the clash.
In midfield, Declan Rice, Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham are also picked by Shearer in midfield, with Mainoo pairing the Arsenal star and Bellingham operates in an advanced role.
Shearer made two changes in attack, suggesting Cole Palmer replaces Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze takes Phil Foden’s place on the left wing, while Harry Kane gets to keep his spot as the top striker. Shearer also suggested another option on the right flank in Anthony Gordon.
”I think Gareth will go with a pretty similar line-up , I don’t think he’ll go away from what he’s used in the past, albeit he’ll be looking for a big improvement in the performance, Shearer said, speaking on his selection, per Daily Mail.
”This is the time where you have to step up. The Netherlands did it in their last-16 game, Turkey were absolutely outstanding as well. There are some huge games coming up in the quarter-finals, so it’s something to look forward to,” he added.
