Chelsea would need to break one of the club’s transfer record to sign Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion from Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
According to The Sun UK Chelsea has found out the asking price for the Spanish-born Nigerian striker who has been compared to former Blues legend Diego Costa.
The Blues initially made a 42 million pound bid to sign Omorodion, which was rejected by Atletico, having valued the 6ft 4inches striker at 70 million pounds (roughly €80 million).
Chelsea’s transfer record for a 20-year-old
In order to meet up with this price tag, the two-time Champions League winners would need to smash their transfer record for a 20-year-old.
Christian Pulisic holds the record for the club’s most expensive 20-year-old, following his €64 million move from Borussia Dortmund, which is €16 million less than Omorodion’s asking price.
Omorodion has attracted the interest of Chelsea’s recruitment squad, which is led by Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, having suit Blue Co’s new youth policy, coupled with his attacking abilities.
The Super Eagles-eligible forward scored nine goals in the division last season and was included in Spain’s squad for the 2024 Olympic Games. n
Omorodion’s contract with Los Rojiblancos runs through the end of the 2027–2028 season.
