Micah Richards further argues that Bukayo Saka will remain preferred to Cole Palmer in Gareth Southgate’s England squad due to his defensive abilities Sportsbuddy.ng reports.
Although Saka had a low-profile beginning in the tournament, he played tremendously in a new position as a wide midfielder during the quarter-final match against Switzerland where he scored a marvelous goal that saw England through to the next stage.
Bukayo Saka and Palmer scored their respective penalties in the penalty shootout that ended 5-3 to advance to the semi-final against the Netherlands.
Richards’ Confidence in Saka
Richards expressed confidence in Saka’s starting position: He said, “I was a little bit worried when he was playing at wingback… but they were brave. ” Regarding Saka, he said, “In terms of goalscoring after Kane, Saka’s the most important. ”
Richards highlighted Saka’s work rate in both attack and defense, pointing out that he was not only a dangerous attacker but also strong and good in defense.
Southgate’s Admiration
Southgate also praised Saka for his bravery and playmaking ability saying, “ I gave him a massive cuddle on the pitch. … That takes courage but we have belief in him. “
He noted that Saka defended well and also created chances for the team, saying his display was immense.
