Moises Caicedo has claimed that under Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea there was no serious tactic which they used but only lots of running Sportsbuddy.ng reports.
Chelsea signed the Ecuadorian midfielder from Brighton for over £100m a year ago, and he noticed a dramatic change in training.
Cultural Transition from Brighton to Chelsea
He compared his time at Brighton where coaches focused on tactics as opposed to Chelsea where hard work was valued most.
Speaking to Radio La Red, Caicedo had this to say, “At Brighton, it was all tactical, just with the ball; tactical, tactical, tactical”, and at Chelsea, it was run, run, run and it was very difficult for me”.
He said that at Chelsea, he had to change his playing style, where he had to run a lot and mostly did not have to touch the ball.
Adapting to Pochettino’s Demands
Pochettino, with his unique philosophy that featured high pressing and high intensity, expected his teams to make a lot of ground during the games.
The midfielder had similar problems after an expensive transfer but he attributed his improvement to a performance analyst hired by his agent in February.
Since February, my agent hired a person to who reviews my matches and what I have to improve, how to position myself and mentally It’s helped take pressure off, I was thinking more ‘they paid a lot of money for me I have to perform well’. I wasn’t focused wasn’t showing my level.
Anticipating the New Season
After struggling through his first season at Chelsea, at one notable moment scoring a goal from the halfway line in the match against Bournemouth, Caicedo is still confident.
A club that invested heavily on players such as Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, and Cole Palmer, Chelsea is now set to start a new chapter under Enzo Maresca.
