Micah Richards has accused Chelsea of turning Marc Cucurella into a laughing stock even though he played a crucial role in Spain making it to the Euro 2024 final.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022 for £62m and has not had the best start to his career at Stamford Bridge but is performing well in the Euros.
Cucurella Shines at Euro 2024
The Chelsea full back has featured in five of the Spanish team’s games and was only benched in the final group match.
His performances have taken Spain to the final and they had six consecutive victories.
Richards commented on The Rest is Football podcast: “At Brighton he was in a system, playing as one of three centre backs or at full back, always joining the attacks.
He looked really good. But at Chelsea, it was so disorganized that he became a bit of a laughing stock. ” In this tournament, he has been one of the best full backs.
Support From Gary Lineker
Former England striker Gary Lineker said: “It indicates that when a club is in turmoil, players struggle and cannot play well, the same goes for him, he had a great tournament.
Cucurella mentioned, I am happy in London and I have not thinking about any transfer. He commented, “It is nice playing in La Liga because it is home, but I enjoy England very much, especially for my family it is a good experience.
The Chelsea star is set on the Euros and comfortable with his lifestyle in London. “Today I’m not thinking about any change because my family is very happy” he said.
