After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe will travel to Madrid the next week to be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player and will be handed his new shirt number at the Bernabeu.
Kylian Mbappe’s new number
The French sensation will don Los Blancos’ No. 9 shirt, following in the footsteps of icons like Alfredo Di Stefano, Ronaldo Nazario, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema.
The shirt number that has been vacant since fellow countryman Benzema left the Bernabeu in 2023 will now be taken by Mbappe.
The 25-year-old attacker has worn the shirt number only once in his career, and this was during Monaco’s 2017 French National Cup. It is worth noting that Radamel Falcao wore the shirt number for the bulk of that season.
Kylian Mbappe has previously worn 11, 29, 13, 33, and 39 for Monaco and 7, 14, 17, and 29 for PSG. In his international career, the France national team captain has worn shirt number 10 since 2017–18, after wearing numbers 12 and 20.
Real Madrid have announced that Mbappe will be unveiled as a Los Blancos player next week, according to reports from The Mirror.
The former Monaco attacker signed a five-year contract with the Spanish giant after being acquired from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
This news comes after France were eliminated by Spain in their Euro 2024 semi-final clash.
Meanwhile, Sports Buddy reported in other news that French midfielder Adrien Rabiot, prior to the game, had expressed disappointment in Mbappe’s performance in the Euro 2024—a remark that could reignite existing feud between both players.
