Spainish fans and media believe their national team has a score to settle with Cole Palmer in the Euro 2024 final against England on Sunday.
England’s Gareth Southgate’s team qualified to the final through a last ditch 2-1 victory against the Netherlands while Spain saw off France 2-1.
Under-21 Championship Flashback
Sunday’s final is reminiscent of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last summer, when Palmer scored the deciding goal from a deflected free-kick to give England a 1-0https://twitter.com/FCGool2/status/1677721900628209665 victory over Spain.
Cole Palmer performed the trademark celebration in front of the Spanish bench resulting in both England coach Ashley Cole and Spain’s fitness coach Carlos Rivera being sent off.
Palmer’s Controversial Celebration
Spanish radio Cadena COPE recalls the event and suggests that Spain has a ‘recount’ to settle with Palmer.
Manchester City’s teammate of Palmer, Sergio Gomez, joined the criticism by saying that such a celebration is not good attitude…
Palmer was quick to defend himself by stating that the celebration was maybe a bit over the top but he is just happy. Palmer has yet to feature for England at the Euro 2024 but he has done well when he was coming from the bench.
He said, “During the first few games we did not put our best performance forward. . . especially yesterday, I believe this was our best game in the tournament, this is what one expects during the later rounds of the tournament. ”The last match will be highly exciting as both teams strive to become the champions of the European Championship.
