Manchester United signed Zoran Tosic from Partizan Belgrade in January 2009, thereby making his dream of playing for the club a reality.
He always wanted to play for the club after watching the team’s 1999 Champions League triumph. “I’ve been a United fan ever since I watched them win the Champions League in 1999,” Tosic said.
Struggles and Realization
Tosic, who was delighted with this opportunity, failed to shine. He made his debut in a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup against Tottenham but was to make only two further appearances in the league that term.
“The ball moved so quickly in training that the quality was very high, very high during the training; nobody was losing the ball; except for me”.
Unable to fit into the new system, Tosic was a reserve player for United’s reserve team. He joined the first team during the pre-season preparation for the 2009/10 season and scored a goal in a friendly 8-2 victory against Hangzhou Greentown but he was still poor in competitive games.
In another reports from SportsBuddy, former Liverpool defender and Three Lions star contemplated suicide after frustrations with football.
He was limited to just two League Cup games before being sent out on a temporary basis to FC Koln in the January transfer window of 2010 and netted five goals and provided two assists in 14 games.
A Reflective Departure
This is a view shared by Sir Alex Ferguson who expressed confidence in Tosic by saying: “He is a winger and we like wide players here at Manchester United, so we are very hopeful that he will do well for us.
Once he gets himself accustomed to the pace, I am sure he will play a part for us this season. ”However, Tosic left United permanently in June 2010 to join CSKA Moscow on a permanent basis.
Speaking about his time at United, Tosic said, “Finally, I was not too sure whether I was going to get the chance to play as per my expectations so I thought of changing the club. …
May be I should not have been so early and should have tried long enough to impress Sir Alex.
After all this was Man United. ”In the end, Tosic had his Manchester United moment but was not good enough to leave his mark at the club.
