Former President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has criticised the tendency to employ another local coach for the Super Eagles.
This comes after the short time stint of Finidi George who was appointed in May and prematurely resigned after two games with no victory.
Super Eagles And The Respect Factor
Pinnick, a staunch supporter of foreign coaches, is of the opinion that players exhibit varying levels of respect towards home-based coaches.
According to a report from SportsBuddy, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is pursuing Hervé Renard, the former coach of Ivory Coast as new Super Eagles coach.
He said “Nigerian coaches have the required knowledge and abilities; managing players is not just technical knowledge, there is something about how they treat and relate with players.
It’s a shame that players do not have the same level of respect for Nigerian coaches as they do for foreign coaches. ”
Infrastructural Deficiencies in Nigerian Football
Pinnick also addressed the key issues that affect the development of the Nigerian football such as inadequate facilities in the stadiums. Speaking on infrastructural deficiencies, he said, “We have serious infrastructural deficits.
In Morocco everything is ready for use, like a plug and play. In England today they can host the world cup. Our problem in Nigeria is not the provision of these amenities but the maintenance. ”
Notwithstanding, Pinnick is confident that with the right support in terms of infrastructure, Nigeria could produce even better football talents.
